honolulu

Hi everyone

this is my last destination, and a good place to stay for a while. I'm in Honolulu in Hawaii. Honolulu means sheltered bay or/and place of shelter (you can pick the one you like). Honolulu is located on the south east coast of Oahu. Its a nice warm day here being 30 degrees Celsius. since it was such a nice day i thought i might go check out the coast (Waikiki beach). beaches aren't the only tipe of coasts, I wish they were but there are also others. If your up high on the coast it could just drop off like a cliff into the water (don't try jumping off there may be many sharp rocks). bays and coves are also coasts. Coasts are made by the tides going in and out pushing up and down the land and eroding large rock faces and formations. but back to beaches, every beach has a shoreline (its where the water meets the sand or pebbles or gravel).

Everglades

Hi everyone

this is my second last stop on my amazing trip and i'm at the everglades. its 26 degrees Celsius here. the everglades wetlands is famous because unlike lots of other wetlands it water doesn't come from flooding rivers, its water comes completely from rain. the everglades covers 20,000 kilometres square. the water in the wetland ranges from about 1-7 feet deep. many hurricanes go across the everglades mostly between August and october. There is only 50% of the everglades left because some of it was drained and cleared. 36 endangered species live in everglades including the american alligator and more. thats all from everglades i will shortly be at my next and last destination

great barrier reef

Hi everyone i am now at the great barrier reef.

it is located off the coast of Queensland in Australia. did you know the great barrier reef is the biggest coral reef in the world, is a world heritage site and is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The great barrier reef is made up of more then 2900 reefs. the water is warm here at 25 degrees Celsius, so i think i might have to go for a swim. theres 2 threats to the great barrier reef, the first threat is pollution but the biggest threat of all is climate change because as the ocean temperatures rise the coral starts to die when it gets to hot. thats all from the great barrier reef only two more destinations till my trip is over.

Andes

Hi everyone

I'm in the andes. It is a warm 19 degrees celsius here. In the Andes there is 3 regions the northern Central and Southern regions. The northern region is the hottest of the 3 regions as it is closest to the equator and tropical rainforests also grow there because its hot and rains. The other 2 regions are colder so not many people live in them. did you know the andes mountains was formed by the Nazca tectonic plate and the South American tectonic plate smashing together. while i was here i had a look at a lot of the animals that were around the andes but my favourite would definately have to be the Llama or the Alpaca. thats all from the Andes i'll tell you when i get to my next destination.

Burrow, Alaska

Hi

I'm now in Barrow, Alaska. Barrow is the most northern city in North America and is inside the Arctic circle. It is -3 degrees celsius here. about 4500 people live in Barrow. In Barrow the sun stays up for about 80 days between early may and august and then the sun doesn't rise for about 60 days between November and January. You can see the northern lights very well from barrow, you can't see them good at all if the sun is out and the sky is bright. They always look best when it is dark and the sky is clear. around Barrow there is a layer frozen subsoil just a bit under the surface of the ground that stops roots from groing deep into the ground so only little plants can grow near Barrow. well thats all from alaska. i'll see you in my next location.

Serengeti Plains

Hi again all my readers,

I'm in Serengeti plains (if you didn't know thats a grassland, a national park, and a world heritage site) it is about 20 degrees celsius here and it is very dry. serengeti plains is located in south west Kenya and north west Tanzania (In Africa if you didn't know) and is about 13,000km².Serengetis awsome landscape has been shaped over many years by volcanic activity, rain, sun and wind. Its not just the landscape and grass in serengeti thats amazing, its also the animals. Did you know there is more then two million wildebeest and half a million thomsons gazelle. noone lives in serengeti national park except the staff and a couple of researchers. it is terrible that hunters have been killing the lions, leopards, elephants, buffalos and rhinos.

amazon rainforest

while i was in the amazon region i thought i might have a look around the rainforest. The amazon rainforest is over half of the remaining rainforest in the world. There is nearly 40,000 species of plants in the amazon rainforest. Deforestation is a big problem as many of the worlds rainforests are starting to disappear. The rainforests of the world used to cover about 14% of the worlds land but now only cover anout 6%. the amazon i home to more then 200,000 species of plants. Many of the worlds medicines come from the amazon rainforest.
